This shot was taken by Rob when we stopped to camp in the Serengetti. The leopard was not best pleased as we had obviously disturbed his afternoon siesta. One loud growl later and we decided to pack up and move on a little further.

One of Africa's Big 5, the leopard is a powerfully built cat and is the largest of the spotted cats.

Silent, secretive animals. Excellent climbers and good swimmers. Leopards have wide ranging territories and their habitat includes a preference for forests and hilly areas. Although, drinking water is not a necessity, good cover is.

The leopard marks its territory with urine and droppings and they also claw the bark of trees. Generally a silent animal, the leopard has a characteristic call similar to the sound of roughly sawing wood.
